Our University History

Riphah International University traces its roots to a profound vision of blending modern education with Islamic ethical values, establishing itself as a beacon of holistic learning in Pakistan. Sponsored by the not-for-profit Islamic International Medical College Trust (IIMCT), founded in 1995, the university's journey began with the establishment of the Islamic International Medical College in Rawalpindi in 1996. This initiative was spearheaded by Maj. Gen. (Retd.) Muhammad Zulfiqar Ali Khan, TI(M), TBt—a renowned cardiologist and visionary leader whose commitment to integrity and excellence laid the groundwork for Riphah's ethos.

Chartered by the Federal Government of Pakistan in 2002, Riphah International University was born out of a mission to produce professionals equipped not just with technical skills, but with moral fortitude and social responsibility. Under the founding Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Anis Ahmad—an eminent scholar and educationist of international repute—the university rapidly expanded. By 2005, it earned a prestigious "W" Category ranking from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan, securing its place among the top private institutions eligible for national research grants.
